"I've tried pretty much everything on the market and I can honestly say that I have NEVER played anything that comes close to the tenor DURGA. I'm in sax heaven." I now use Theo's pieces on all my horns: Soprano - HR GAIA 9; Alto - Metal DURGA 9 and HR Durga 9; Tenor - Metal DURGA 9

My name is Gary Mulholland and I'm a professional musician and educator from the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. I started playing saxophone at age 10 in a school instrumental music programme and 30-odd years later, music has taken me all around the world and provided many awesome opportunities. 2013 marks my 21st year in music education and for the past 4 years, I've taught saxophone and clarinet at All Saints Anglican School on the Gold Coast and was appointed Head of Bands in 2011, being responsible for overseeing all aspects of brass, woodwind and percussion tuition/ensembles at the school. I've also worked in several other well-regarded Queensland schools where music education has been a major part of the school's curriculum and school life.

In addition to music education, I'm an active performer and have performed on more than 50 live and studio albums as soloist and I still gig regularly throughout South-East Queensland and overseas. I'm primarily a freelance live and studio musician but there are about 7 local bands/acts I regularly work with. Unfortunately, the global economic downturn has greatly reduced the number of gigs for Australian live musicians and whereas I used to play at least 2-3 nights a week, I'm lucky to be booked 2-3 times a month at the moment....everybody seems to be using DJs and duos.

Whilst saxophone is my first-love and primary instrument, I play almost as much EWI these days with the AKAI EWI4000S and the Yamaha WX5 wind controllers. I currently use an Apple MacBook Pro for all my audio and synthesis requirements, with MainStage being my performance platform.

You can't be a sax player and not been influenced at some stage of your career by sax icons Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Michael Brecker and David Sanborn. However, my primary influences over the past 15 years have been Eric Marienthal, Gerald Albright, Dave Koz and Steve Tavaglione....these guys are simply brilliant.

Having mentioned the cats above, I really need to mention a bunch of other players to whom I listen all the time: Jeff Kashiwa, Michael Lington, Boney James, Mindi Abair, Jeff Coffin, Jan Garbarek, Eric Darius, Brandon Fields, Ernie Watts, Grover Washington Jnr, Euge Groove, Kirk Whalum, Maceo Parker, Candy Dulfer, Mark Douthit, Masato Honda, Nelson Rangell, Warren Hill, Richard Elliot, Tom Politzer (Tower of Power) and Steve Cole.

I've been married to just the one outstanding lady - Kim - for 21 years and we have one daughter, Tiahna, who is 16 years old.
