"Totally loving the DURGA!!!"

Biography

THE TITLE OF HAROLD RAPP III’S EXPLOSIVE BREAKTHROUGH FULL LENGTH ALBUM SET APART PERFECTLY CAPTURES HIS CAPTIVATING AND EDGY BLEND OF R&B, HIP-HOP, POP, AND GOSPEL VIBE WITH THE SIZZLING HORN TEXTURES THE VERSATILE ALTO SAXOPHONIST USES TO ENHANCE THE EMOTION OF HIS FLOWING MELODIC LINES.

It also reflects the incredible whirlwind/roller coaster of a life journey he has been on to get to this point in his career, which is flourishing via performances throughout his home base of Denver and key endorsement deals with Jupiter Music (the nation’s largest distributor of public school instruments), Neotech (neck straps), Reunion Blues (cases) and Legere Reeds. Rapp continues to excel by recently receiving his first Global Artist Endorsement from Hercules stands.

Rapp’s collaboration with local keyboardist and producer James Roberson to produce Set Apart was a partnership in launching his recording career with his locally released debut album Third Degree. His latest project was the release of his holiday collection Expressions of Christmas by Harold Rapp III & Friends. “The music on Set Apart conveys my belief that in this life, there is nothing that you cannot accomplish with God,” says Rapp. “Sometimes I just hear and feel the music that comes to me and I just start moving to the beats in my head. I digest the music and then put out what I’m hearing and continue to build the energy.”

“My textured approach on the sax is inspired by the way gospel vocals are recorded, and it’s also a popular vibe with contemporary R&B artists like Rihanna and Tank. The best part of creating Set Apart and having the opportunity to get it out there is that I now have a chance to explain my full story through the music.”

Inspiration

Why did you choose to become a musician?
I instantly bonded with saxophone as soon as I heard it and never looked back!

What is your experience when you feel connected into the music?
I love to absorb the energy from the audience and push it back into the crowd!

What is your experience of when you don't feel connected to your music?
When I'm not in an environment performing the music I love.

Where does your inspiration comes from? What does it feel like?
God, plain and simple! It feels indescribable.

What is your experience while improvising? Does it relate to any spirituality you may practice in your life?
First it's all spiritual, then I let my ears and fingers do the rest. I believe that my talent comes from God and have no problem stating it.

Where does your inspiration while composing come from? What is your experience of that inspiration like?
Honestly I'm still learning composition, the right way. The hardest part was adapting to writing what I hear versus playing what I hear.

Do you have any fun stories of inspirational moments to share?
Being young comes with it's challenges, but having the most unusual people speak into my life about the gift God has gave me. I never forget starting out performing in one particular venue. A woman that was completely intoxicated, instantly became sober and told me that God told her to tell me that my talent doesn't belong in that venue and that God has something greater for me. Shortly after the woman stated those words, she began to swagger and become inebriated again.
