Theo Wanne Mouthpieces have taken my playing ability to new heights. The expression that I now get from my instruments is nothing short of incredible! I have tried a lot of mouthpiece brands in the past (I have the infamous "mouthpiece drawer" to prove it), but the buck definitely stopped here. Im absolutely in love with these beautiful works of art. Thank you Theo Wanne for your hard work and dedication!
"J Sylvester is an up and coming saxophonist on the contemporary jazz scene. The saxophone gained his attention at the early age of 11 years old, but did not become his passion until the age of 17. J's inspiration was cultivated by saxophonists such as Johnny Griffin, Dexter Gordon, Stanley Turrentine, Hank Crawford, Grover Washington Jr., David Sanborn, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, and Everette Harp just to name a few. Because of these extraordinary musicians, J Sylvester has worked hard to establish a style and sound that is his own. In 2009, his debut release of Inside Out on the Pobam Music label propelled him into the arena of contemporary jazz artists. J can be seen performing in the DMV (DC,MD,VA) area as well as Pittsburgh, PA and Houston, TX.
What is your experience when you feel connected into the music?
From the time that I place my hands on my saxes to play, a surge of absolute spiritual energy surges through my soul. Its an endorphin release like no other. And when the sound from the very first note is heard, I am at peace.
Do you have any fun stories of inspirational moments to share?
I would have to say that the my very first show that I opened for was truly inspirational. I opened for Spyro Gyra some years ago in Memphis, TN on an outdoor stage on the famous Beale Street. As my band and I were playing, Spyro Gyra came out to listen to us. They told us later that they very rarely come out to listen to the opening act. They said we were "cooking with hot grease" and they just had to see who we were. Afterwards, they talk to us in their dressing room and I go to be up close with Jay Beckenstein for some inspiring words!
